Think back to your school days. Now try to imagine those memories without decorations on your classroom walls, adequate paper supplies, crayons, colorful library books, and playground equipment calling you to fun and exercise…Unfortunately this is the condition in the Nosara schools. The schools are in a sad state of disrepair with walls pocked by chipped paint, and often times, broken windows are the norm rather than the exception.  The children are in need of basic items that neither the school system nor parents can afford to provide. Projecto Ninos is working to improve the quality of the learning environments in Nosara, and you can help!

Join us by participating in our Sister School Program. Projecto Ninos is looking for motivated students, classes, schools, and organizations to “adopt” our school system and help support us by holding fundraisers for supplies and other essential learning tools. 

Here’s where to begin:

• Gather your class, Girl/Boy Scout troop or other organized body of children together for a brainstorming session. 
• Choose a fundraising project. (Need help getting started? See ideas below.)
• Host the fundraising event. Bring awareness to the cause by creating posters and handouts. 
• Using the proceeds from your fundraiser, log onto our Projecto Ninos Wish List on Amazon.com. This will allow the students to actually see what they’re providing.
• Upon receipt, Projecto Ninos will disperse the supplies to the least fortunate classrooms first. If you have a particular grade level or school in which you would like to donate the items to (for example, if your fourth grade classroom would like to donate supplies to another fourth grade classroom), please denote this in the shipment.
  The fun doesn’t have to stop there. Challenge other classes and organizations in your area and sponsor a contest to see who can raise more! When we work together, we make the world a better place. 

Participation in the Sister School Program will help the children of Nosara, while helping your own community in turn. After hosting a fundraiser for children in Costa Rica, your children will benefit through a greater awareness of world issues, they will learn about a different culture, and build camaraderie by working together to reach a common goal. If the Sister School Program sounds like a good fit for you, please email us info@projectoninos.org.  Let’s start today towards a brighter tomorrow!

Example Fundraisers:

• eBay Garage Sale- Convert your used items into cash! Have each student bring in an item to sell on eBay. The items can be posted on the Projecto Ninos eBay store and because we are a registered eBay charity, the listing fee is refunded. Gather your unwanted items and let the bidding begin. The children can help with pricing, organizing, photographing and marketing the event. • School Supply Drive- Have your classes decorate a large cardboard box and place it in front of your classroom or school, soliciting parents and students for donations. Partner with your local grocery store, super center, or other business to display a box and wish list in a prominent location.
• Bake Sale- Each child can bring a baked good from home to sell. This is especially popular near the holidays, and it’s a delicious way to raise money.
• Car Wash- “Suds for Schools” A little water, soap and elbow grease makes for a simple fundraiser and some good clean fun.
